After the capital Zagreb, Split is the second largest and most important city in Croatia, and the most attractive on the Dalmatian coast.

Split is a large port and an important cultural and economic centre, which has become a popular tourist destination in recent years. Its most famous and most beautiful square is the Peristyle, the portico of the ancient Palace of Diocletian, built in the 4th century A.D. and surrounded by 24 imposing columns of red granite. The remains of the palace are well preserved and can be visited, and since 1979 have been part of the World Heritage protected by the’UNESCO. To the left of the square, like a guardian of history, rises majestically the medieval bell tower of the Cathedral of San Doimo, 57 m high.

Today, the square has become a place for social and cultural activities, thanks also to its excellent acoustics.

The soul of the city is always the sea and its promenade of sunset strolls, romantic cafés and the locals' favourite beaches.

40 km east of Split lies the magical village of Grab, surrounded by the lush nature that frames the spring of the same name.
