The Port of Bar is the main maritime port of Montenegro, which is connected with twice-weekly trips, from June to September, with the Port of Ancona, by the Marche company Adria Ferries.

Information and tips for ferry travel

What is the distance between the two ports?

Ancona is located 410 nautical miles from the Port of Bar and the connection between the two ports is provided by the Italian company Adria Ferries, with twice-weekly trips during the summer period, until the first week of September. Departures are at 20:30 and arrival in Bar in the morning at 09:00.

How long is the ferry trip from Bar to Ancona?

The journey takes about 13 hours and the tratta Bar Ancona is the Adria Ferries company's AF Mia ship, which can carry passengers and vehicles with its excellent on-board services.

Are there hydrofoils or fast ferries on the Bar Ancona line?

No, there are no hydrofoil or catamaran type vessels on the connection between Bar in Montenegro and the Port of Ancona, only traditional large ferries that take about 12 hours to arrive at their destination.  

Documents required for travel  

The validity of documents for all travellers must be checked before leaving. European citizens and citizens of all countries that have joined the Schengen Agreements, must present their identity card as travel document valid for expatriation. For all others, however, a passport is compulsory, with a validity of not less than 6 months.

What are the check-in and boarding procedures on the Bar Bari ship?

In order to complete check-in procedures, before boarding, passengers must present themselves at least three hours in advance at the Passenger Terminal of the Port of Bar, entrance from Vladimir Rolovic Avenue, approximately 2 km from the city centre. Together with the documents, you must show the ticket, either in paper or digital format, which you have previously purchased on our website Sealines Ferries, both as a one-way trip and as a round trip.

Once you have obtained your boarding passes, you arrive at the Border Police checkpoint and then proceed to the quay where the ship is berthed. The staff will show you the way to the car park and reception on the ship.

How much is the ferry from Bar to Ancona?

The ship ticket has an initial cost of 80 euro, for one-way travel only, and refers to standard passage without an assigned seat on the ship. The car ticket, height up to 1.80 m is 120 euro, including taxes and fees. Departures in June and July are considered in low season and instead all departures after mid-August are to be considered with high season rates.

Accommodation on the ship Bar Ancona

Select your departure and time and the booking platform will direct you to your choice of accommodation during the journey. The ferry AF Mia by Adria Ferries offers various accommodations, but since the journey is overnight, most passengers choose the accommodation in cabins, all equipped with private sanitary facilities and bed and bath linen. You can choose a double, triple or quadruple cabin, with or without a porthole.

For those who do not choose the cabin or no longer find availability, the alternative is the numbered reclining armchair, which gives access to the dedicated, spacious and bright lounge, located near the bar and dining area. The spaces inside the ship are spacious and air-conditioned, with large, bright windows to make the journey a pleasant and unique experience.

The bridge crossing remains the cheapest accommodation on board ship, widely chosen by younger people, which only guarantees boarding on the ferry and accommodation in the common areas or on the outside decks.

Services offered on board

The AF Mia ship joined the Adria Ferries fleet in December 2023 and is equipped with every comfort, to make the crossing a moment of pleasure and relaxation, and with technologically modern services, for a safe and environmentally friendly journey.

For the rest of the passengers, the ship has well 197 cabins, all with bathroom and shower. On the upper decks are cabins of the type suite, a total of 14, with double bed, conversation area with sofa and coffee table. 

On board the ship, passengers will find a wide choice of dining options, with 6 bars and restaurants, both à la carte with 100 seats and self-service, in a large, well-organised area seating up to 230 people. Also on the outside deck, at the stern of the ship, is a bar with small tables and comfortable chairs, serving coffee, cold drinks, snacks and ice cream, and from where you can enjoy an enchanting sunset.

Thanks to the wi-fi free on board, passengers stay connected during the journey and can share their experience on board the ship from Bar to Ancona.   

Booking and Boarding for Persons with Reduced Mobility 

All routes on the ship are accessible for passengers with disabilities and those in need of care. On the ferry there are two cabins equipped for the PMR passengers and their accompanying persons. Travelling by car or motorbike on the Bar Ancona ferry

The ticket of the’car from Bar to Ancona has a cost 110 euro, the motorbike one on the other hand 50 euro, including taxes. If it is a return trip, where the outward journey has already been made on the leg Ancona Bar, travellers can take advantage of a 20% discount on return.

When booking, you must choose your vehicle type correctly, to avoid paying a surcharge at check-in. Bringing your own vehicle on the Bar Ancona route and back makes travelling on holiday and returning home afterwards much easier. From Port of Ancona you can easily reach both the SS76 and the A14 motorway, in all directions.

Booking a camper van or caravan on the ferry

If you travel for Ancona da Bar with a campervan, you should select the camper vans / caravans from the drop-down menu and choose the correct vehicle type. The system allows for the booking of both a vehicle with a length of less than 6 metres and one with a length over 6 metres. The fare difference due to length is EUR 25 per trip.

Bringing a pet on board the ship

Pets can travel with their family on the ship AF Mia of Adria Ferries and enjoy the service pet friendly that the company reserves for all our four-legged friends, which consists of cleaning kit and the’reception. For those who do not want to forego a night's rest, the ship provides 8 cabins equipped with everything needed to accommodate travellers with pets.

Always remember to stock up on food and have a water bowl handy. On the open deck during the walk, you should have a muzzle and leash, dustpan and hygiene bags with you at all times. For the trip, the European animal passport, the health booklet listing all vaccination dates and future booster shots and a health certificate issued by the relevant ASL veterinarian.

I am travelling without a vehicle, where can I leave my luggage

For all those who do not need to carry their luggage or part of it on board the ship, the ship provides a storage room located on the same deck as the garage, where they can store their luggage. This service is chargeable and provides the passenger with greater freedom of movement on board.
